PoliticsNo change on election rigging stance: Imran Khan

ISLAMAABD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan on Friday said he stood by his stance about rigging in the May 11 parliamentary elections.

Speaking to media persons outside the Supreme Court, Imran Khan said he did not make any mistake, saying he used the word “shameful” for returning officers and deputy returning officers (DROs).

“Why should I apologise for rigging? I did not scandalize the Supreme Court,” he said. “My party has waged a long struggle for the independence of judiciary. I got to know today that shameful is an abusive word.”

“All the political parties complained about rigging in the general elections. I wish to see the next elections as free and fair,” he said.

Earlier, the Supreme Court rejected the detail explanation submitted by Hamid Khan, the counsel for Imran Khan, regarding contempt of court case and ordered him to submit his written reply again by August 28.

In his detailed reply, Imran Khan had stated that he talked about the subordinate judiciary on July 26. He said he did not talk about the higher judiciary but objected to the returning officers’ performance in his remarks.

Imran Khan said that the word ‘Shameful’ in his July 26 speech was used for Returning Officers (ROs) and not for judiciary.
