ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that there will be no cut in the budget of the Higher Education Sector for the year 2022-23 and the Higher Education Commission (HEC) will be made functional like it was in the previous tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government.
Issuing directives to the Ministries of Planning and Finance regarding the HEC, the prime minister regretted that budget cuts in the last four years had a negative impact on higher education, saying that this process should be reversed.
There is no question of a cut in the budget of Higher Education Commission. I am aware of the negative effect that cuts have had on higher education during the past four years. I have given clear directions to Planning Commission & Ministry of Finance in this regard.

The prime minister directed the authorities concerned to focus on revival of education projects in universities across the country and increase the number of programs to bring the education sector at par with international standards.
Shahbaz Sharif said that resources of the Higher Education Commission should be increased significantly and all possible facilities be provided to teachers and students.
