ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Wednesday told the National Assembly that there would be no unannounced load shedding after May 1.
While responding to a calling attention notice in the Lower House of the Parliament in Islamabad on prolonged power outages, the minister announced that the current power crisis would be overcome in the next 8 to 10 days. He said that the supply situation would gradually start improving from tomorrow (Thursday).
The minister said that some power plants of 2200 megawatts were closed for the maintenance purpose.
Khawaja Asif said that a power plant of 760 megawatt was being inaugurated in Sheikhupura today. He said that currently the Country was facing power shortfall of 5,200 megawatt while 6,400 megawatt of power would be added to national grid by the end of this year.
Earlier on April 18 while presiding over a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Energy in Islamabad, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif directed the ministry of water and power to utilize all resources to overcome power shortage in the Country.
