PESHAWAR: At least three persons were killed while several others sustained injured when a suicide attack targeted the vehicle of a religious leader at the entrance of the Jamia Uloom al-Islamia madressah (seminary) in the suburbs of Peshawar after Friday prayers.
The suicide attacker targeted the vehicle of Haji Hidayatullah, the Jamatud Dawa (JuD) leader, but luckily he was not present in the vehicle. However his driver and bodyguard, who were the occupants of the targeted vehicle, were killed in the blast.
The AIG Bomb Disposal Squad Shafqat Malik said blast occurred in a pickup vehicle and body-parts of the attacker had been recovered. He said five to six kilograms of explosives were used in the blast.
Malik further said that ball bearing and pellets were also used in the making of the bomb.
The casualties were shifted to the nearby Lady Reading Hospital. Security persons reached the blast site and cordoned off the area.
