ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The 11-party Joint Opposition will endeavor to remove its differences and bring forward a Joint Presidential Candidate when it will meet in Murree on Saturday.

In the meeting to be held at Nawaz Sharif’s resident at the Kashmir Point in Murree, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Jamiat-e-Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F), Awami National Party (ANP) and other party leaders have been invited.

PPP has nominated its stalwart Aitzaz Ahsan for the President’s Slot against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Dr Arif Alvi; however, PML-N openly took exception to Aitzaz Ahsan while Senator Pervez Rasheed suggested the PPP’s nominee to tender an apology to Nawaz Sharif if they want PPP to endorse its name.

PML-N has also proposed its own nominee Lt General (retd) Abdul Qadir Baloch for the Post.

As per the political analysts, the PTI-led government alliance will have an easy way if the opposition parties remains divided. Though PTI with support of its allies has already enjoyed an upper hand for possessing 346 votes against opposition’s 320 in the Electoral College for the Presidential Election, consisting of Senate, National Assembly and four Provincial Assemblies.

The Joint Session of the Parliament will be held at 10 am on September 4 to elect the 13th President of Pakistan.
