LAHORE: Opposition parties on Tuesday held a protest demonstration outside the Punjab Assembly against a new local body bill.
Speaking on this occasion, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Mahmood-ur-Rashid said that his party would go to court if the provincial government did not refrain from passing what he called the dictator-era bill.
Members of opposition parties attended the session wearing black armbands. They said that an effective protest would be staged against the new bill.
The opposition lawmakers were of the view that one or two months of delay in local body elections could be tolerated. But they said that the ruling party, which claims to be the champions of democracy, was trying to pass a dictator-era law.
