KARACHI, Pakistan: Karachi police during the current year conducted 10648 raids alongwith 2091 search operations in which 427 criminals and terrorists were arrested and 384 killed, said DIG – Headquarters, Sindh, Abdul Aleem Jaffery.

In a detailed presentation given to a delegation of trainees from National Police Academy (NPA) at Central Police Office here Tuesday, he said 1584 cases were registered in the metropolis under Loud Speaker Act and 876 were arrested for violating the law.

Seven hundred and eighteen (718) cases were registered against people involved in distribution of provocative material and wall chalking and 198 of these were arrested.

“Police department had also managed to complete the necessary technical survey of 55012 madarsahs in Karachi this year,” said DIG Jaffery.

He mentioned that a heavy cache of varied categories of arms and ammunition was also retrieved from those arrested under National Action Plan during current year.

These were said to include 18 LMGs; 10 G- Three Rifles; 341 SMGs/Klashinkovs; 7847 pistols/revolvers/mousers; 291 rifles; 866 shot guns/repeaters; six MP5 besides 29 suicide jackets; 614 grenades/hand grenades and 756 avon bombs / ball bearing bomb.

DIG Abdul Aleem Jaffery on the occasion also briefed the visitors about measures adopted for improving the professional capacities of the police force.

He said forensic division of Sindh police is being upgraded and measures are fast underway for completion of DNA laboratories.

Moreover, he added steps are also being taken intelligence capacities for which series training programs have been organized by the department.

Earlier Inspector General of Police – Sindh, Ghulam Hyder Jamali talking to the NPA trainees said his department was exposed to series of challenges in Karachi, however, timely decision and fool proof strategy has helped achieving desired results against the criminals and terrorists.

He said police department was committed to continue with its targeted operation till the criminal – terrorists nexus is eliminated for good.

DIG Ghulam Sarwar Jamali, DIG – RFF, Dr. Amin Yousuf, DIG – Training, Iqbal Waar  and other senior officials were also present on the occasion.
