ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif has said that trust deficit between Pakistan and the United States can’t be overcome within a day, it will take some time.
In a statement surfaced in the wake of US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson’s visit to Pakistan, Khawaja Asif said that the issues will be resolved through dialogues not threats.
The minister said that efforts we have been making right now are leading us towards the right direction, and it will bring betterment in the situation.
His statement came after the US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson undertook a visit to Pakistan lasting for just few hours in which he reiterated old US’s demand of “do more”, and asked Pakistani leadership to expedite the efforts to wipe out terrorism.
Asif also said that the United States should also peep into its collar. He asked that what the US has achieved in Afghanistan in 16 years?, adding that Taliban have safe heavens in Afghanistan where the planning of attacks on Pakistan is done.
The foreign minister further said that 45 percent areas in Afghanistan is under the control of Taliban’s.
“Our peaceful culture and society based on tolerance is destroyed,” Khawaja Asif said.
In his maiden visit to Pakistan occurred on Tuesday, Rex Tillerson while talking to Pakistani Civil and Military Leadership stressed the need for stepping the fight against terrorist groups on Pakistani soil and facilitate the Afghan reconciliation process.
During the talks, the two sides also agreed to continue the pace and scope of high level engagements between Pakistan and the US in the future.
