ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has expressed its condolences over the passing away of the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Yukiya Amano, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

The Japanese diplomat Yukiya Amano, who led the IAEA for a decade, passed away at the age of 72.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal said that Yukiya Amano brought years of experience, wisdom and solid leadership to the agency and served it with dedication and commitment.

The Spokesman said that the IAEA Chief Yukiya Amano was also a great friend of Pakistan, a Country he visited twice in 2014 and 2018. He said that the technical cooperation on the peaceful uses of nuclear energy between Pakistan and the IAEA was greatly enhanced under his guidance.

Dr Faisal said that Yukiya Amano‘s contribution towards realizing the vision of ‘Atoms for Peace and Development’ will be fondly remembered.

“Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Director General Amano in this difficult hour,” the Spokesperson added.
