ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The speculations about an extension in the tenure of the National, Sindh, and Balochistan Assemblies are almost over as it has been decided at the highest political level that in the first week of August 2023, summaries to dissolve these assemblies will be sent to the concerned authorities.
The Provincial Assemblies of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa stand dissolved since January 2023, and now with the completion of their five-year tenure, the remaining assemblies of National, Sindh, and Balochistan will cease to exist after August this year.
Well informed sources told the Dispatch News Desk (DND) that an in-depth consultation was held with the former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and afterwards, it was agreed that a summary to dissolve the National Assembly will be forwarded to the President of Pakistan in the first week of August 2023.
Likewise, summaries to dissolve the Assemblies of Sindh and Balochistan will be sent simultaneously to their respective Provincial Governors.
Sources said that it’s most likely that general elections across the Country will take place in October 2023.
Earlier, ambiguity shrouded the fate of elections to three assemblies as rumours were rife that the tenure of these assemblies might be extended through the proclamation of an emergency in the Country.
