Pakistan is facing serious security threats: PM Nawaz

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Monday that Pakistan is facing serious security threats and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led federal government is fully aware of its responsibilities.

The prime minister made these remarks in a key meeting of the PML-N parliamentary party in Islamabad on Monday that is being held to mull over national security issues along with talks with Taliban.

The premier said that talks are possible only with those factions which are ready to accept Pakistan’s constitution as supremacy of law is the first priority.

Sharif said that terrorism is not acceptable and that the Protection of Pakistan Ordinance-2014 will play a key role in restoring peace.

The sources said that during the meeting the prime minister will take the party into confidence over government’s steps regarding national security that also includes counter terrorism strategies and talks with Taliban. Moreover, the recently issued Protection of Pakistan Ordinance will also come under discussion, they added.
