ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Syed Tariq Fatemi said on Tuesday that Pakistan is fully qualified to become a member of the multilateral export control regimes, particularly the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).

His remarks were made while talking to the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Ryabkov who paid a courtesy call on the special assistant at the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Tuesday.

During the meeting between Tariq Fatemi and Sergey Ryabkov, who is leading the Russian delegation for the 10th Meeting of Pakistan-Russian Consultative Group on Strategic Stability, the two sides had an exchange of views on the positive trajectory of Pak-Russia bilateral relations, regional and global security situation as well as broad issues in the field of disarmament and non-proliferation.

The special assistant underscored Pakistan’s contribution to global efforts for disarmament and non-proliferation as a mainstream and equal partner of the international community.

Calling for a principle-based and non-discriminatory global regime on non-proliferation, Fatemi said that Pakistan is fully qualified to become a member of the multilateral export control regimes, particularly the NSG.

The Pakistan-Russian Consultative Group on Strategic Stability was established in 2002. It provides a structured platform for exchange of views on issues related to arms control, non-proliferation and disarmament, as well as regional security.
