ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The federal minister for information Pervaiz Rasheed said on Friday that there is a possibility that Pakistan will get full membership of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), a forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region.

In an interview, the information minister expressed the hope that investment will come to Pakistan through the APEC forum which will help improve the economy of the country.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for China on a three day visit to attend annual meeting of the APEC leaders, being held in Beijing on November 8.

The information minister said that participation of Pakistan for the first time in the APEC meeting is a positive gesture at diplomatic level.

The minister said that Pakistan needs friends which want to invest and have capabilities. He said that the objective of the government is to make Pakistan prosperous and create employment opportunities.

The APEC, having a membership of 21 countries, was established in 1989 with a purpose to facilitate economic growth and prosperity in the region with the vision of creating a seamless regional economy.

The forum aims to strengthen regional economic integration by removing impediments to trade and investment at the border, enhancing supply chain connectivity across the border and improving the business environment behind the border.
