JAKARTA, Indonesia: Pakistan and Indonesia have agreed to enhance bilateral Defence and Defence Production Cooperation.

The understanding was reached when a Pakistani delegation led by the Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed met the Indonesian Defence Minister General (retd) Ryamizard Ryacudu in Jakarta.

The delegation discussed issues pertaining to global and regional over view covering internal and external challenges to Indonesian national security and how these were being addressed.

The delegation also discussed the terrorist threat and counter militancy strategies being followed by both Pakistan and Indonesia identifying the scope for mutual cooperation.

Moreover, it also came under discussion that how could Indonesia benefit from Pakistan’s defence production, research and development facilities and firsthand experience of Pakistan in the counterterrorism fields.

The delegation also extended the formal invitation to the Indonesian Defence Minister to visit Pakistan which the later accepted.

The delegation included the Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Defence Production Senator Lt General (retd) Abdul Qayyum, the Chairman Senate Standing Committee on Law and Justice Senator Javed Abbasi, former Defence Minister Naveed Qamar, former Governor Lt General Moeenuddin Hyder, former President of Supreme Court Bar Barrister Ali Zafar and Executive Director Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency (PILDAT) Aasia Riaz.
