Pakistan observes day of mourning over Ismailis massacre

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A day of mourning was observed across Pakistan including in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday to express solidarity with the Ismaili community whose 45 members were massacred in yesterday’s barbaric act of terrorism in Karachi.

The national flag was lowered and waved at half-mast on all the government buildings in the country.

Meanwhile, the collective funeral prayer of those killed in Karachi tragedy was offered at Al Azhar garden in Karachi.

The funeral prayer was attended by a large number of citizens including relatives of the deceased and representatives of various political parties.

On Wednesday, at least 45 Ismaili community members were killed while more than 10 others sustained injuries when their bus came under an attack by unknown gunmen in Safoora Goth area of Karachi.

The deadly attach which was later claimed by militants affiliated with the Islamic State (IS) triggered worldwide strong condemnation.

Later on Wednesday night, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif while chairing a high level meeting at the governor house in Karachi directed the concerned authorities to apprehend the criminals involved in attack on bus in Karachi at the earliest.

The prime minister said that law enforcing agencies should work in complete coordination to ensure peace in Karachi. He also said that all institutions responsible for countering terrorism should gear up to meet the challenges.
