ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The total number of Coronavirus Cases across Pakistan has mounted to 499,517 following the emergence of 2,007 more infections on January 8, the National Command & Operation Centre (NCOC) said.

Additionally, 40 people lost their lives to the virus in the last 24 hours.

Of them, 21 people died in Punjab, 9 in Sindh, 8 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), and one 1 each in Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

On January 8, a total of 40,898 COVID tests were conducted including 15,438 in Punjab, 12,904 in Sindh, 6,246 in KPK, 4,980 in Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT), 613 in Balochistan, 374 in Gilgit-Baltistan, and 343 in AJK.

The tests found 2,007 people positive with a positivity ratio of 4.91%.

Since the outset, a total of 499,517 COVID-19 Cases have been detected to date across Pakistan.

With 224,004 Cases, Sindh remains the most affected province followed by Punjab with 144,111 Cases.

Likewise, KPK has so far registered 60,751 Cases, ICT 38,970 Cases, Balochistan 18,351 Cases, Gilgit-Baltistan 4,879 Cases, and AJK 8,451 Cases.

With regard to 10,598 fatalities recorded so far in Pakistan, Punjab is atop with 4,242 deaths, Sindh has recorded 3,679 deaths, KPK 1,718 deaths, ICT 436 deaths, AJK 235 deaths, Balochistan 187 deaths, and Gilgit-Baltistan 101 deaths.

So far 455,445 people have been recovered across Pakistan while 33,474 COVID patients are under treatment as of January 9.
