ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan suffered 157 COVID-19 deaths on April 23, the highest fatalities recorded so far in the Country in a single day since the pandemic began wreaking havoc.

In the last 24 hours, Punjab recorded the most deaths with 98 followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which registered 37 deaths.

The Sindh province suffered 11 deaths from the virus, Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) 5, and Balochistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) 3 each.

With an 11.27% positivity ratio, the Country also registered 5,908 new infections on April 23.

So far, 790,016 Coronavirus Cases have been registered in Pakistan since the beginning.

Out of them, 285,542 Cases have been registered in Punjab, 276,670 in Sindh, 112,140 in KPK, 72,613 in ICT, 21,477 in Balochistan, 16,327 in AJK, and 5,247 in Gilgit-Baltistan.

In terms of fatalities also, Punjab has so far been the most affected province with 7,897 deaths. With 4,587 COVID-19 deaths, Sindh remains the second most affected region followed by KPK with 3,066 deaths, Islamabad 657 deaths, AJK 458 deaths, Balochistan 230 deaths, and Gilgit-Baltistan 104 deaths.

To date, 686,488 COVID-19 patients have recovered from the disease across the Country, recording a recovery ratio of 86.9%.

Currently, 86,529 COVID-19 patients are under treatment in Pakistan, and 4,682 of them are in critical condition.
