AsiaPakistan regrets over North Korea nuclear test

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has regretted the underground nuclear test conducted by North Korea on Tuesday, defying UN Security Council directives to shut down atomic activity or face more sanctions and international isolation, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.

In a statement‚ Foreign Office said all countries should with their respective international obligations.

“Pakistan supports a nuclear weapons free Korean Peninsula as agreed by all parties in the Framework Agreement of 1994 and reaffirms its support for the six-party talks process,” it added.

Earlier in the day, North Korea confirmed that it had successfully conducted an underground nuclear test.

“A third nuclear test has been successfully staged,” the state-run Korean Central News agency said.

“The nuclear test was conducted as part of measures to protect our national security and sovereignty against the reckless hostility of the United States that violated our republic’s right for a peaceful satellite launch,” KCNA said.
