UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has urged the international community to provide it full access to civil nuclear technology to overcome its energy crisis, adding that it does not want arms race in South Asia.
“Pakistan is committed to goal of disarmament but there should be no discrimination in peaceful uses of nuclear technology,” Pakistan’s permanent representative to the United Nations Masood Khan said while speaking in UN Disarmament Commission in New York.
Khan said that Pakistan’s nuclear policy is guided by the principles of restraint and responsibility.
“Pakistan does not want arms race in South Asia but is fully attentative to the emerging security dynamics,” the envoy said.
The envoy further said that Pakistan believes induction of ballistic missile defence system in South Asia will be an escalatory and destabilizing step.
