ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has suffered a loss of almost $80 billion during the decade-long war against terrorism, the National Assembly was informed on Friday.
In addition, 50,000 civilians and law enforcement agencies lost their lives as a result of war on terror.
Speaking on the floor of the lower house of the parliament on Friday, the parliamentary secretary for interior Maryam Aurangzeb said that Pakistan has been victim of terrorism for over 10 years.
The parliamentary secretary for interior said that extremist groups have been active throughout the country with their own ideology and motives.
The Pakistan’s military has been carrying out a full-fledged military operation Zarb-e-Azb against various outlawed militant outfits in the restive North Waziristan tribal region as well as in Khyber agency dubbed as Khyber-1.
More than 1,500 militants including foreigners and important commanders have been killed in both operations since their inception.
Likewise, the Pakistan army has cleared 90 percent of North Waziristan agency of militants during the ongoing operation.
The minister of state for parliamentary affairs Sheikh Aftab Ahmed in his remarks at the National Assembly said that law and order situation has been improved considerably after the launch of Zarb-e-Azb operation against militants.
Sheikh Aftab said that the personnel of armed forces and security agencies are rendering sacrifices to protect the frontiers of the motherland.
