LAHORE, Pakistan: The inaugural edition of the much-awaited Pakistan Super League (PSL) will take place in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in February next year, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) confirmed on Thursday.
Earlier it was announced that the Twenty20 tournament would be held in the Qatari Capital of Doha from February 4 to February 24. However after meetings of top officials of the PCB and the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB), the venue has been changed to the UAE.
A total of 24 matches will be played in the first edition of the PSL among five teams including Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta and Islamabad in Dubai and Sharjah.
The prize money of the event is $1 million whereas internationally acclaimed players including Chris Gayle, Kevin Pietersen, Shakib Al Hasan, Dwayne Bravo, Keiron Pollard, Sunil Narine, Grant Elliott, Tim Bresnan, and Dwayne Bravo have already expressed their wiliness to be part of the mega event.
Each team in the tournament will consist of 16 players including four foreign players. Likewise, each team will play the others twice.
Last Friday, the PCB unveiled the logo and official anthem of the PSL in a ceremony held at the Lahore Expo Centre.
