Government of PakistanPakistan to engage China in joint oil, gas projects: Minister

KARACHI, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Shahid Khaqan Abbasi has said that China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) focuses on infrastructure development, and Pakistan also hopes that the project could be a driver for joint oil and gas projects.

“We are hopeful that Chinese oil and gas companies will invest in the energy performance sector and also in other sphere of Pakistan’s business,” Abbasi told Chinese Xinhua news agency on the sidelines of the recently concluded Abu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference (ADIPEC).

On the possibility of joint investments in liquefied natural gas (LNG), the minister said that “China, like Pakistan, is an importer of LNG but we are in discussions with Chinese firms as they have the relevant technology to explore and export LNG.”

The ADIPEC, one of the world’s most influential energy sector events, took place in Abu Dhabi’s National Exhibition Centre under the patronage of President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

The theme of the event was “Transitional Strategies for an Efficient and Resilient Energy Industry”, and it featured 94,661 attendees including 8,555 registered delegates from across the globe.
