ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Monday said that terrorism was a common threat for both Pakistan and Afghanistan, and Islamabad would work with Kabul for security and stability in the region.

The prime minister said this during the telephonic conversation with Afghan President Ashraf Ghani.

Ashraf Ghani had made the telephonic call to Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to congratulate him on his election as Prime Minister of Pakistan.

The Afghan president expressed satisfaction over the smooth transition and said that it was good for democracy in Pakistan.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi thanked the Afghan president and said that terrorism was a common enemy and “we will work together to eliminate this menace from the region.”

Both leaders resolved that “We will also work together to address the challenge of energy in the region and improve the economic conditions in Pakistan and Afghanistan.”

Separately, the Interior Minister Ahsan Iqbal also met the prime minister and briefed him on progress on National Action Plan (NAP) and said that it would be implemented with full vigor, and active liaison would be maintained with all the provinces during the implementation process.

The interior minister also briefed the prime minister on the implementation status of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

The prime minister said that national security would be ensured at all cost in consultation with all the stakeholders.
