ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan and the United Kingdom on Wednesday agreed on the need of continuous efforts towards reconciliation process with the goal of achieving sustained peace in Afghanistan.
The understanding came when the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz met the British Ambassador to Afghanistan Dominic Jermey. The British High Commissioner to Pakistan Thomas Drew was also present in the meeting, said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed the peace and security situation in Afghanistan.
The adviser shared with the British ambassador, Pakistan’s success in counter terrorism and its willingness to engage with the government of Afghanistan in order to improve relations and promote peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The British ambassador stressed that the United Kingdom looked forward to play a facilitative role to promote peace and stability in Afghanistan.
Separately, the High Commissioner of Mauritius Yusuf Elahee paid the farewell call on the adviser on foreign affairs in Islamabad and discussed issues related to bilateral relations between the two Countries.
