On Monday, the US President Donald Trump signed a proclamation officially recognizing Israel’s annexation of the Golan Heights, which it captured from Syria in 1967 and has occupied ever since.

“This decision represents a serious violation of UN Charter, international law and applicable UN Security Council Resolutions, particularly 497 (1981). It also constitutes a serious blow to the Rule of Law and international norms,” said the Foreign Office in Islamabad on Wednesday.
The Foreign Office said that Pakistan shares the International outrage and is deeply concerned over the potentially grave repercussions of this decision for the region and beyond.
“Pakistan calls upon the UN Security Council to take cognizance of this situation and take steps in accordance with the UN Charter,” it added.
Earlier Saudi Arabia, Arab League, Iran, Russia, Lebanon, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) also denounced the US’s move to recognize Israel’s sovereignty over Syrian Golan Heights.
The US president had already said on March 21 in a tweet that “After 52 years it is time for the United States to fully recognize Israel’s Sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which is of critical strategic and security importance to the State of Israel and Regional Stability!”.
