In the first ODI, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. However, top batters struggled early on as Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam had lost their wickets for a total score 7. Fakhar went for 2 while Babar had his first duck in ODIs after July 2019.
In the middle order, Aghan Salman also failed to make an impact and could score only 7 runs.
However, the opener Imam Ul Haq injected some stability into the Pakistan innings and scored 61 runs. He along with Mohammad Rizwan (21 runs), Iftikhar Ahmed (30 runs), and Shadab Khan (39 runs) built brief partnerships.
Imam Ul Haq’s 61 runs in the first ODI helped him to move up one place to third in the latest ICC ODI batter rankings.
