ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan has said that Pakistan welcomes the discussion held in the United Nations Security Council regarding the situation in Indian Occupied Jammu & Kashmir (IOJ&K) for the second time.

The 15-member United Nations Security Council, which met behind-closed-doors in New York, has discussed the grave situation in IOJ&K for the second time in five months with diplomats voicing concern over the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

In a statement on Thursday, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that an internationally recognized dispute, Jammu and Kashmir remains on the UN Security Council’s agenda, its consideration by the Council reflects a recognition of the seriousness of the prevailing situation.

The prime minister said that the Jammu and Kashmir dispute must be resolved in accordance with relevant UN Security Council resolutions and the will of the Kashmiri people.

“We will continue to provide moral, political and diplomatic support to the Kashmiri people until they secure their inalienable right to self-determination,” Imran Khan reiterated.
