PakistanPakistani Taliban threaten to send Musharraf to "hell" on his arrival

ISLAMABAD: In a video released on Saturday, Pakistan’s Taliban have threatened to use suicide bombers and snipers to assassinate former President Pervez Musharraf when he returns home from self-imposed exile on March 24.

“The mujahideen of Islam have prepared a special squad to send Musharraf to hell. There are suicide bombers, snipers, a special assault unit and a close combat team,” Adnan Rasheed, who took part in a previous attempt to assassinate Musharraf, said in a video.

Musharraf is due to return home on Sunday (tomorrow) from Dubai, after nearly four years of self-imposed exile, in time to take part in parliamentary elections scheduled to be held on May 11.

The threats have been made at a time when the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday granted a pre-arrest bail in several cases including some cases in which he has been declared a proclaimed offender.

The anti-terrorism court had declared Musharraf a fugitive and issued arrest warrants for him after he refused to cooperate with investigators probing Bhutto’s assassination.

Fearing an attempt on his life by militant organizations, Musharraf has asked the government to step up his security measures by providing him a bullet proof vehicle.
