ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Tehreek-e-Khilafat, a lesser-known terror outfit in Pakistan, has pledged allegiance to the Islamic State (IS), becoming the first such group outside the Middle East to do so.

A report published in The Telegraph says that the group pledged to raise the IS’s flag in South Asia and Khurasan – a term militants use for an area covering parts of Afghanistan and Pakistan.

“From today, Sheikh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi shall consider Tehreek-e-Khilafat and Jihad mujahideen fighters of Pakistan as one of the arrows among his arrows which he has kept for his bow,” the report quoted the terror group as saying in a statement.

“We are praying from the almighty Allah to give us chance in our lives to see the expansion of Islamic State boundaries toward the SubContinent and Khurasan region in order to hoist the flag of Islamic State here,” said the group which has claimed responsibility for a string of attacks in Karachi.

On June 30, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) was revoked and a new state namely the ‘Islamic State’ was declared by Islamist radicals in captured territories from Iraq and Syria.

The IS was declared as a ‘caliphate’ and Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was announced its first ‘caliph’.

The oil rich caliphate considers itself a legitimate state and directed all Islamists including Al-Qaeda to pledge their allegiance.
