ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Population of Pakistan is now 207 million with 2.4% annual population growth, confirms Population Census of Pakistan that was conducted during April 2017.

According to Housing and Population Census 2017, there are only 10, 418 transgenders live in Pakistan.

Country’s current total population has soared to 207.744520 million with an average annual growth rate of 2.4 percent from calendar year 1998, as recorded in recently concluded 6th Housing and Population Census.

Punjab tops in population as its population is now 110.01 million but it stand at bottom in annual population growth rate of 2.13%.

Balochistan stands at top in population growth with 3.37 % annual growth rate.

Urban population is showing an overall population growth of 57 percent during the period of 1998-2017.

Provisional figures for Provinces are as follows :-
Punjab – 110.01 million (2.13% annual growth rate)
Sindh – 47.89 million (2.41% annual growth rate)
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa – 30.52 million (2.89% annual growth rate) and
Balochistan – 12.34 million (3.37 % annual growth rate).

According to provisional summary results of the census which were presented in the Council of Common Interests (CCI) on Friday, this population number included 132,189,531 rural and 75,584,989 urban population, showing an overall population growth at 57 percent during the period 1998-2017.

The figures recorded in the census also showed 2.23 percent growth in rural areas and 2.7 percent in urban areas during these years as the male population of the Country at present stands at 106,449,322 with the female population at 101,314,780, and the population of transgender at 10,418.

As per the provincial break-up, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa currently has population of 30,523,371, showing average growth rate of 2.89 percent over a period from 1998-2017. This includes 24,793,737 as rural population and 5,729,634 urban, showing 2.87 percent and 2.96 percent annual growth respectively.

The total population of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) stands at 5,001,676, showing 2.41 annual growth rate. This includes 4,859,778 rural and 141,898 urban population, indicating an average growth of 2.41 percent and 2.70 percent respectively.

The Prime Minister appreciated the efforts of Pak Army, law enforcing agencies, Police, district administration and staff of PBS for completing the Census 2017. The Prime Minister also lauded the brave sacrifices of Shuhuda of Lahore blast and ten enumerators who lost their lives during the census operation. The Prime Minister urged the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics’ staff and the Ministry of Statistics to ensure early completion of final figures so that economic and social planning of the Country can be brought to scientific footing.
