LAHORE: Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has summoned government members in the Provincial Parliamentary Committee for consultations as a part of his efforts to resolve the matter politically instead of its being forwarded to the election commission, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Tuesday.
Earlier, a six-member committee members formed to evolve consensus to select caretaker Chief Minister for consultations told media after today’s meeting that they could not reach a consensus on a name for caretaker chief minister and were therefore referring the matter to the election commission under Article-224 of the Constitution.
However, the CM Punjab has directed Punjab Parliamentary Committee members belonging to PML-N to hold further negotiations for finalizing the name of provincial chief executive.
The sources said the Punjab Assembly’s parliamentary committee will reconvene to continue deliberations in this regard.
In the parliamentary committee, the ruling PML-N is being represented by former ministers Rana Sanaullah, Mujtaba Shujaur Rehman and Iqbal Chunnar, while the opposition PPP and PML-Q are being represented by Shaukat Basra, Zulfiqar Gondal and Chaudhry Zaheer.
The PML-N has proposed names of Justice (retd) Amir Raza Khan and former bureaucrat Khuwaja Zaheer while the opposition has suggested names of senior journalist and political commentator, Najam Sethi, and Justice (retd) Zahid Hussain.
