Government of PakistanParliament should summon Chairman NAB and seek reply: PM Khaqan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on Wednesday said a parliamentary committee should be constituted which would summon the Chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal and seek reply from him over the allegation that Nawaz Sharif sent $4.9 billion to India.

“I am not hopeful that NAB will dispense justice to Nawaz Sharif,” the prime minister said while addressing on the floor of the National Assembly in Islamabad.

On Tuesday, NAB while taking notice of the money laundering allegations began verification whether former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was involved in sending $4.9 billion to India.

According to NAB, World Bank’s migration and remittance book released in September 2016 carried information that foreign exchange reserves of India increased by $4.9 billion after receiving the huge amount sent through money laundering, inflicting losses to Pakistan’s national kitty.

In his address at the Lower House today, the prime minister said the Chairman NAB was saying that &4.9 billion were sent to India. He said a former prime minister was alleged of a severe crime.

Shahid Khaqan Abbasi said the Chairman NAB should be asked about the information and proofs which he had with him.

The prime minister said he and the Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah had unanimously sent the name of the Chairman NAB. He said NAB was made to break down the political parties.

“We can’t find the example of such circumstances as created by NAB,” he said.

Khaqan Abbasi said they were ready to amend the accountability law.
