ISLAMABAD, Pakistan:  Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq has said that Pakistan and Spain enjoy cordial relations illustrated by shared perception on major global and regional issues.

He was speaking to Spanish Ambassador, Carlos Cesar Morales Sanchez who called on him at Parliament House, Islamabad on Thursday.

The Speaker remarked that a vibrant bilateral relation between Pakistan and Spain gives dynamism to the existing ties by sharing knowledge, expertise and enhanced capacities. The friendly relations between both the countries may generate new avenues of cooperation for sustainable development and socio-economic uplift of both the countries, added by the Speaker.

Referring to Spain’s interest in investment and trade opportunities, particularly in Pakistan’s wind and solar energy, agriculture, textile and tourism sector, the Speaker informed that Pakistan is taking revolutionary steps in promoting alternative renewable energy resources. He further informed the Ambassador that Pakistan’s Parliament is first in the world to be completely powered by solar energy. He also stressed on the need for promoting people-to-people contact.

Sardar Ayaz Sadiq remarked that Pakistan has taken keen interest in attaining sustainable goals and benchmark has been set in the Parliament House by establishing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Secretariat that will provide technical assistance in achieving sustainable development in the country.

The Speaker reiterated the need for forging stronger partnerships in advancing common interests and informed regarding Pakistan-Spain Friendship Group established in the National Assembly of Pakistan. He urged for diversification of bilateral relations and stressed on the need for strengthening inter-Parliamentary relations through regular exchange of parliamentary delegations.

Spanish Ambassador, Carlos Cesar Morales Sanchez congratulated the Speaker for enabling Pakistan’s Parliament as first in the world to go green. He added that Spain acknowledges and appreciates Pakistan’s contribution in the global war on terror and its endeavors for regional peace and stability. Carlos reinforced commitment for further cementing ties with Pakistan.

Referring to Spain-Pakistan friendship group formed in Spanish Legislature, he highlighted that Spain reciprocates Pakistan’s gesture of friendship and aspires to cement and diversify bilateral relations with Pakistan.
