PAT workers-police clash: 2 policemen killed, 130 wounded

LAHORE, Pakistan: At least two police personnel have been killed while 130 others have sustained injuries in clashes with activists of the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) in Punjab, a spokesman of the Inspector General Punjab Police said.

The spokesman said that the PAT workers have taken 22 policemen hostage while many police officials are still missing after clashes with the PAT activists.

A number of properties have also been damaged while some vehicles have been set ablaze by the PAT workers in the province, the spokesman added.

Murder case registered against Dr Tahirul Qadri

Meanwhile, the city police has registered a murder case of a policeman against the PAT leader Dr Tahirul Qadri on the complaint of the father of deceased policeman Ashraf in Naseerabad police station in Lahore.

The police said that the case has been registered under section 302 and 324 of Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) besides terrorism and police encounter sections also included in the case.

PAT workers asked to observe ‘martyrs day’ in their own districts

On the other hand, the PAT leader has asked his supporters to observe the ‘martyrs day’ and hold sit-ins in their own districts on Sunday in case they fail to reach Lahore because of restrictions put in place by the government.

The sources in the PAT said that Dr Tahirul Qadri is likely to give a call for revolution march to his supporters on Sunday and the main procession might set off from Model Town Lahore on Monday.
