ISLAMABAD: The federal minister for information Pervaiz Rasheed said on Wednesday that the matter relating to Geo TV is under consideration of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) committee and the government does not want to interrupt its working.
Talking to media representatives In Islamabad on Wednesday, the information minister said that decision of the PEMRA committee will be final, adding that the PEMRA has given its point of view on the matter.
His statement a day after the PEMRA committee suspended the licences of three television channels owned by the Geo TV network including Geo News, Geo Entertainment and Geo Tez. However, later the PEMRA disowned the decisions announced by its three-member committee, adding that any decisions taken by it were null and void.
The information minister further said that the Pakistan Army has no political agenda as a national institution. He urged the media to unveil the faces who are trying to indulge army in the politics.
Rasheed said that a commission is being worked out to ensure implementation of the PEMRA laws.
