LAHORE, Pakistan: The Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) has filed a petition in the Election Tribunal seeking recount of votes cast in Lahore’s NA-122 during Sunday’s by-election.
The petition was filed by the PAT candidate advocate Ishtiaq Chaudhry on Tuesday and in his plea, he argued that irregularities were found in NA-122 by-election
The petitioner alleged that voter lists were removed on polling day. He asked the election tribunal to issue directive of vote recount in NA-122.
As many as 20 candidates were in the run for NA-122 by-election held on Sunday.
The former Speaker National Assembly and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Candidate Sardar Ayaz Sadiq won the NA-122 by-election by 74,525 votes. His main rival Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Aleem Kahn bagged 72,082 votes.
On Monday, the PTI Chief Imran Khan in a twitter message also said that an investigation into the number of votes cast by PTI supporters but thrown out of NA-122 at the last minute is underway.
Imran said that the after the completion of the probe, they will approach the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
The PTI lost the NA-122 seat as a result of October 11 by-election but its candidate Shoaib Siddique won the by-polls in Lahore’s PP-147 constituency, defeating PML-N candidate and nephew of Kulsoom Nawaz, Mohsin Latif.
