ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Senate was told that the new MRI Machine has been procured by the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) and is in the process of installation and has a tentative installation date of December 2021 as intimated by the company.

To a question by Senator Rubina Khalid, the Minister for National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination told the House in writing on Friday that the Philips Achieva 1.5 T MRI Machine in PIMS has been declared condemn on February 16, 2021 and supply order for the purchase of new MRI machine was issued on April 30, 2021.

The minister further told the House that the ventilators for newborn babies are not being manufactured in Pakistan so far.

The House was told that 20 ventilators are available for Children in PIMS, Islamabad while 05 ventilators are dedicated for children (Neonatal and Paediatrics) in Federal Government Polyclinic.

It was further told that Federal General Hospital is Secondary Care Referral Hospital; therefore, no ventilator is available in FGH. Likewise, NIRM Hospital has no ventilator yet for the mother child centre.

To another question, the minister apprised that the Federal Breast Cancer Screening Center has been established at PIMS which is the first dedicated public facility in Pakistan to provide awareness, detection, and subsequent treatment of breast cancer disease.

It was told that the Center offers totally free-of-cost screening mammography and ultrasound facilities all year round six days a week to women of all socioeconomic strata.
