ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Senate was informed on Friday that the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Islamabad will have a facility for treatment of cancer patients as Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has allocated Rs500 million fund for setting up such facility in the hospital.

“Although, the funds allocation is for the Ministry of Health, but the efforts are on to set up the cancer treatment facility at the PIMS,” the Minister Incharge of Capital Administration and Development Division Usman Ibrahim said during the question-hour in the Upper House of the Parliament.

The minister said that free medicines have been provided to patients in emergency department besides deserving under Zakat and Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal funds at the PIMS.

During last nine months, the minister said that more than 5,60,000 deserving patients have been provided free medicines.

Usman Ibrahim said that presently one medical store is working in the PIMS while two more pharmacy stores would be set up to facilitate patients.

In addition, the minister informed the Senate that all record of medicine distribution is being computerized to ensure transparency.
