No plan to attack Musharraf during ceasefire: TTP Mohmand agency

PESHAWAR: The Mohmand Agency chapter of the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) on Tuesday rejected the government’s concerns that former president Pervez Musharraf might be attacked by terrorists affiliated with the TTP and Al Qaeda, saying it has not plan to attack the former president during the one-month long ceasefire with the government

On Monday, in a the letter sent to the home secretary Punjab, the Islamabad police chief, the chief commissioner and other officials, the interior ministry warned that terrorists affiliated with the TTP and Al Qaeda have planned to target Musharraf, who is currently facing treason charges, in the near future.

The interior ministry warned that the attackers have planned to assassinate Musharraf inside or outside the court. In addition, the ministry advised extreme vigilance and fool-proof security measures be taken to avoid any untoward incident.

In a statement on Tuesday, the TTP Mohmand agency chapter reaffirmed its commitment to ceasefire and also asked the government to avoid using the name of the Taliban for the sake of political gain because it can damage the peace process.

Earlier in the day, in another tweet Omar Khorasani, the personal secretary of Omar Khalid Khorasani who is the leader of the TTP in the Mohmand Agency, said that we express our deep concerns and condolences with the victims of drought in Tharparkar district of Sindh province.

Omar Khorasani said that TTP’s Mohmand Agency chapter will try its best to send aid to famine-hit people of Tharparkar.
