ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday directed that a comprehensive plan for launching anti-encroachment drive and future utilization of railways land for generating revenues should be formulated and submitted within 15 days.
The prime minister issued the directive while presiding over a briefing on the Ministry of Railways at Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad.
The Minister for Railways Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, the Secretary/Chairman Railways Muhammad Javed Anwar and senior officers of the Ministry and Pakistan Railways were present during the meeting.
The secretary railways briefed the prime minister in detail about Pakistan Railways and various measures being taken for turn-around of the organization into a sustainable and profitable venture.
Javed Anwar also apprised the prime minister about the issue of thousands of acres of encroached land of Pakistan Railways worth billions of rupees.
Later, Prime Minister Imran Khan also chaired a meeting of the Federal Cabinet in Islamabad, in which a nine-point agenda came under discussion.
The meeting attended by the federal ministers and senior government officials discussed the agenda related to finance, taxes and other important areas.
In a separate meeting, the Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood briefed the prime minister about the progress made so far on the proposed re-use plan of heritage buildings.
