SUKKUR, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday announced a historic development package worth Rs 446 billion for the Sindh province, aimed at the socio-economic development of the backward districts.

Under the package, 14 provincial districts including Badin, Hyderabad, Larkana, Tando Allahyar, Dadu, Jacobabad, Mirpur Khas, Tando Muhammad Khan, Ghotki, Khairpur, Naushahro Feroze, Sanghar, Shikarpur, and Sukkur will be given priority.

The Sindh development package envisages the construction of the Nai Gaj dam which will help irrigate 28,800 acres of land as well as a 306-kilometer long Sukkur-Hyderabad motorway.

Under the package, 200,000 acres of land will also be rehabilitated which will create livelihood opportunities for the people.

Besides, gas supply will be ensured to 160 villages in the deprived districts of the province whilst the provision of 30,000 annual electricity connections is also part of it.

The package also envisages improving the electricity transmission system which will help reduce line losses and outages.

The education reforms are also part of the Sindh package under which, the ratio of higher education will be brought to 52 percent whilst for quality education teacher-student ratio will be brought at 1:20.

In addition, 14 Passport Offices will also be upgraded.

While addressing a Cheque Distribution Ceremony under the Kamyab Jawan program in Sukkur, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that the government will make every possible effort for uplift of the backward areas across the Country and help the people of Sindh for improvement in their living standard.

The prime minister said that the federal government disbursed 33 percent of the total funds among deserving families in Sindh under the Ehsaas Programme during the pandemic. He said that the network of Ehsaas Programme is being extended to 12 million people.

Imran Khan said that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government’s primary focus is to enhance the living standard of the low income people. He said that the government has provided mega development programmes to the backward areas across the Country including Balochistan and the tribal districts.

The prime minister asked the Sindh government to review its decision of cancellation of the NOC for developing Bundal Island near Karachi for economic progress of the people of Sindh as well as other parts of the Country.
