ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The National Security Council (NSC) meeting began in Islamabad on Tuesday with Prime Minister Imran Khan in the Chair to discuss national security issues as well as the situation in Afghanistan and at the Line of Control (LoC) (National Security Council meeting).

The meeting was being attended by Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Finance Minister Asad Umar, Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Chaudhry, Defence Minister Pervaiz Khattak, and Minister of State for Interior Shehryar Afridi.

In addition, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC) General Zubair Mehmood Hayat, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa, Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Zafar Mahmood Abbasi, Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Mujahid Anwar Khan, Director General Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lt General Asim Munir, Director General Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Asif Ghafoor were also present in the meeting.

It is the first NSC meeting since the new government led by Prime Minister Imran Khan took over the power in the Centre in August 2018.

Earlier, the Chief of Arm Chief (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa also held a separate meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan.

In the meeting, the discussion was held on various issues including recent security developments and the prime minister’s recent trip to China.

They also discussed the situation arising out of vandalism committed by Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) activists during the countrywide three-day protests.

Sources said that it was decided in the meeting that stern action would be taken against miscreants involved in the vandalism for causing huge losses to public and state property.
