Government of PakistanPM Imran Khan confirms his visit to US

KARACHI, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Wednesday confirmed his upcoming visit to the United States, brushing aside speculations emerged after the US State Department demonstrated its ignorance about the high-profile visit, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

Talking to media representatives in Karachi, the prime minister said that he would embark on an official visit to the United States, wherein he would reside in Pakistan’s Embassy in Washington.

Though the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal in his weekly media briefing in Islamabad on July 4 told that Prime Minister Imran Khan would travel to Washington at the invitation of the US President Donald Trump, and hold a meeting with the Host on July 22.

However, the US State Department Spokesperson Morgan Ortagus while addressing a press briefing on July 9 didn’t confirm Imran Khan’s US visit, saying that “(The visit) has actually not been confirmed by the White House.”

“I would reach out to the White House to confirm or not confirm that visit,” she said.

Following her statement, Dr Faisal tweeted “We wish to caution against speculation about PM’s visit. We are in close contact with the U.S. side. As per practice, formal announcements are made at the appropriate time.”
