ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi will attend the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers Session in Makkah on May 28 and 29, 2019, the Foreign Office said.
In his weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Mohammad Faisal confirmed the visit of the foreign minister.
However he maintained that the visit of Prime Minister Imran Khan to attend the 14th OIC Summit in Makkah on May 30 and 31 will be confirmed in a due course.
In reply to a question regarding the growing tensions between Iran and the United States, Dr Faisal said that Pakistan always supports the dialogue and desires that all issues should be settled peacefully and through engagement by all sides.
Dr Faisal said that if required, Pakistan is ready to play a constructive and positive role in this regard.
“Our position is very clear in this regard. Pakistan supports dialogue in all situations. If there is any problem, it should be resolved through peaceful dialogue and negotiations,” he said.
Regarding the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif’s visit to Pakistan, the Spokesperson said that he is arriving in Pakistan tonight. He said that the visiting dignitary will hold talks with the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi tomorrow (Friday).
The Foreign Office Spokesperson said that we believe the situation in the region is serious and needs to be addressed through dialogue by all parties.
“We expect all sides to show restraint, as any miscalculated move, can transmute into a large-scale conflict,” Dr Faisal added.
