HealthPM Imran Khan visits SKMCH Peshawar, inaugurates newly established ICU

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: Prime Minister Imran Khan visited the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Centre (SKMCH&RC) in Peshawar on Friday and inaugurated the newly established operating room suite and Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

The opening of these state-of-the-art facilities marked the completion of the third and final phase in the commissioning of SKMCH&RC in Peshawar, thus equipping the hospital with diagnostic and treatment facilities for cancer under one roof.

Later in a series of tweets, the prime minister said that he was delighted to visit the SKMCH in Peshawar to inaugurate the newly completed operating room suite and ICU.

The prime minister said that the opening of these state-of-the-art facilities at the hospital marks the completion of the final phase in the commissioning of SKMCH Peshawar which had opened in 2015.

Imran Khan added that this means SKMCH&RC Peshawar now offers all diagnostic and treatment facilities for cancer under one roof for people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Islamabad, and northern Pakistan.

The Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital in Lahore was opened in 1994. Since over 30% of all patients seen in Lahore came from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Afghanistan, we decided to establish Peshawar SKMCH, he said.

Imran Khan appealed to the hospital’s supporters and donors to donate generously so that the two existing hospitals can continue to treat an ever-increasing number of cancer patients free of charge; and so as to allow the new hospital in Karachi to open its doors to patients in December 2023 as planned.
