ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the devastating earthquake in Herat, Afghanistan.

“Our hearts go out to the affected communities. We stand in solidarity with the Afghans during this difficult time,” the prime minister said in a statement posed on X, formerly Twitter, on Monday.

The prime minister said that he has instructed the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to send maximum support to the affected in the earthquake-hit Afghanistan.

Anwaar Ul Haq Kakar said that the Afghanistan government has specifically asked for sending medical team, field hospital, 50 tents. and 500 blankets. He said that on his instructions—in addition to the relief goods—all the requested items are being dispatched in the afternoon today with more relief goods to follow.

In Afghanistan, more than 2,500 people are feared dead and thousand others injured after the 6.3-magnitude earthquake – striking 25 miles (40 kilometers) west of Herat City in the western Herat province – flattened 1,320 houses.

It was one of the deadliest quakes to hit Afghanistan in years.

The United Nations has appealed international community to come together and support the people hit by the deadly earthquake.
