SAHIWAL: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif laid the foundation stone of two coal based power plants having a total generation capacity of 1,320 megawatt at Qadirabad in Sahiwal District on Friday.
On the occasion, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif, Federal State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali were also present.
A consortium of Chinese companies will carry out this project by November 2016 at a cost of $150 billion.
The Punjab government has constituted a cabinet committee to constantly review progress and other matters relating to the project.
Meanwhile, the Nandipur Power Project has begun generating 95 megawatt of power in its first phase. The prime minister will formally inaugurate the functioning of the project on Saturday.
The project has a total capacity of 425 megawatts and it would be completed by December this year at a cost of $574 million. The project is being executed by China Don Fang Electric Corporation.
