PM Nawaz to attend Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend the Indian Prime Minister-elect Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony to be held on Monday. The first time the leader from either country tare attending such ceremony. Leader of opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Ali Shah of PPP and Javed Hashmi of PTI have lauded the decision of Mian Nawaz Sharif to attend the ceremony.

In a statement, the spokesperson of the PM House said that the prime minister will proceed to New Delhi to represent Pakistan in the ceremony.

The occasion will provide an opportunity to devise a strategy for moving forward towards bringing peace to the region and normalize ties with India for which Pakistan has always expressed determination and resolve.

It is pertinent to mention that Indian Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi had officially invited Nawaz Sharif to attend the ceremony.

Narendra Modi will be sworn-in as India’s 14th Prime Minister on May 26 after his party won 282 seats in the 545-member Lok Sabha in the recent elections, becoming the first non-Congress party since independence to get a majority on its own.
