LAHORE: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday formally inaugurated the first 95 megawatt turbine of Nandipur power project, having a total capacity of 425 megawatts.
The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif among other prominent personalities were present on the occasion.
The project has four turbines and after every two months, one unit will become functional adding electricity to the national grid. The project is being executed by China Don Fang Electric Corporation.
In his address to the inaugural ceremony in Gujranwala, the prime minister said that these measures will help eradicate poverty and generate economic activities in the country.
The prime minister said that it has been decided to speed up the completion of electricity generation projects particularly in the hydel sector.
Sharif said that Rs 40 billion have been released for the land acquisition of Diamer Bhasha Dam. Similarly, we have decided to undertake work on Dasu dam. These two projects will add 9,000 MW of electricity to the grid.
