KARACHI: Prime Nawaz Nawaz Sharif on Tuesday laid the foundation stones of two coal-based power plants with total capacity of 1,320 megawatts at Port Qasim.
On the occasion, the prime minister said that Port Qasim project will enable us to get cheap electricity.
These two power plants will add cheap electricity in power system by means of imported coal. He said that each power plant will produce 660 megawatts.
The project is joint venture of Chinese and Qatari companies Sinohydro Resources Limited and Al-Mirqab Capital.
The Port Qasim Power Plant will have state-of-the-art technology that would produce coal-based, low-cost electricity with minimum environmental impacts and maximum efficiency. The project will also provide employment opportunities to local people.
Earlier, the prime minister accompanied by minister for information and broadcasting Pervaiz Rasheed and minister of state for water and power Abid Sher Ali arrived in Karachi, wherein Governer Sindh Ishratul Ibad and Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah received them.
